A leading insurer is currently seeking a reserving actuary to join their well-established reserving team.

The successful candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience working in a non-life actuarial role. Candidates with Lloyd’s / London Market reserving experience would be desirable. Candidates with pricing and capital experience will be considered. Proficiency in Excel is essential. Experience in Python, VBA, SQL and/or PowerBI is desirable.

The ideal candidate would be nearly/newly exam qualified.

Role:

  • Quarterly reserving for multiple lines of business.
  • Communicating analysis with a vast array stakeholders of the business from Underwriters to finance.
  • Exposure to Solvency II and IFRS 17.
  • Managing conflicting demands from stakeholders and building relationships.
  • A proactive approach to streamlining complex actuarial problems.
  • Support Solvency II Technical Provisions calculation and reporting process.
  • Input to and assist with Loss Ratio planning processes.
  • Assisting the reserving team in statutory reporting requirements for both Lloyd’s and the PRA.

From you they are looking for:

  • Nearly/newly qualified actuary
  • An excellent problem solving and analytical mind.
  • Previous experience in Reserving is essential
  • Experience in IRFS17 and/or SolvencyII is beneficial
  • Experience in Lloyd’s and/or London Market
  • A consultancy background with reserving would be very valuable.

Role: Trainee Actuarial Analyst

We have a new opportunity for a junior team member to support the Actuarial department of this growing Lloyd’s Syndicate. This is a new role created to provide additional actuarial resource to meet the growing needs of Syndicate

A successful applicant for this role will be involved in:

  • Quarterly reserving exercise for the Syndicate, including reporting to the Reserving Committee, the Board, Lloyd’s and Parent company
  • Regular meetings with all underwriting teams to discuss underwriting and pricing data, in addition to market trends and future outlooks.
  • Further to the above meetings be responsible for production of underwriting data for submission to Lloyd’s under the guidance of one of the senior team members.
  • Assist in the parameterisation and validation of the Syndicate’s internal model. Including reporting requirements to the Risk Committee and Lloyd’s.

An ideal candidate would:

  • Have a good educational record, ideally with a 2:1 or higher degree; a numeric/financial degree would be ideal
  • Strong aptitude with IT, knowledge of (or a willingness to learn) MS Office would be essential.
  • Willingness to get involved in a wide variety of projects.
  • Good problem-solving ability.
  • R or Python knowledge preferable.

Key Accountabilities

– Reviewing quotations and providing pricing recommendations for bulk annuity buy-ins and buy-outs

  • Regularly conduct in-depth market research in collaboration with market business development managers to support continuous strategy review per market; Develop and own reinsurance solution MI that includes monitoring new business pipelines and achievements against plan targets; in-force monitoring with regard to key contract terms; Assist in collateral and currency exposure etc. monitoring; Work with client to improve data quality and timeliness for internal use.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of insurance, reinsurance or banking experience.
  • A track record of handling multiple tasks, clients, and internal stakeholders simultaneously with the ability to appropriately balance priorities, deadlines, and deliverable.
  • Demonstrate good flexibility and resourcefulness in terms of securing supports from stakeholders with competing priorities.
  • Being able to communicate at various levels according to the needs of the conversation.
  • Possess good negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Results oriented and able to work under pressure.
  • Good understanding of at least two of the following: Solvency II, US GAAP, Economic Capital. Knowledge in Korea and Japan valuation and capital bases, CROSS will be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of constructing liability driven asset portfolio will be a plus.
  • Actuarial qualification (FIA/FSA/FIAA), CPA, or CFA holders are preferred.
